Woodview Farm’s Eagle Putt
broke in stride to make the pace in Friday’s six-furlong $49,000
filly and mare allowance feature at Fair Grounds and withstood the late
bid of Mark Stanley’s favored
Elusive Temper to win the race by one length.
Ridden by
James Graham and trained by Jeff Thornbury, the 4-year-old daughter of Pioneering out of Birdie Putt toured the distance in 1:10.59 after ringing up early fractions of
22.69 and 46.32. She increased her lifetime earnings to $39,980 with her second win in five career starts.
Eagle Putt returned mutuels of $6.40, $3.60 and $2.80 while Elusive Temper paid $2.80 and $2.40 in the runner-up spot.
Dan Myers and Christina Lawton’s
Merom rallied to finish third, three lengths behind Elusive Temper, and returned $2.60 to show.
