On the heels of one of its most
successful Breeders’ Cups ever this past November, Santa Anita Park is now
readying for its 76th winter/spring meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 26,
and will be offering fans a litany of promotions throughout its 17-week stand
which runs through April 21.
Fans attending on opening day will
receive Santa Anita’s traditional wall calendar, which this season will focus
on the future, featuring graded stakes winning fillies and mares along with
their most recently arrived progeny. The calendar is free with paid
admission.
The Great Race Place, which utilized
20 traditional billboards throughout L.A. and Orange counties a year ago, will
increase its exposure via both signage and television advertising for the
2012/’13 season.
“This season, we’re focusing our
efforts on the areas that have proven to be effective,” said Santa Anita
President George Haines. “We have increased our television advertising
plan which will concentrate primarily on local cable outlets in Santa Anita’s
target market. We are also renewing our exposure through the billboard
advertising that had a very positive response last year.”
In addition to receiving the opening
day calendar; fans attending on-track will also be offered a $400,000
guaranteed pool in the Late Pick 4, and an opportunity to enter a Fascinators
and Fedoras Hat Contest, presented by Westfield Santa Anita.
First post time on opening day is 12
noon. Santa Anita will be dark on Thursday, Dec. 27. Beginning
Friday, Dec. 28, through Tuesday, Jan. 1, first post time will be at 12:30
p.m. Thereafter, Santa Anita will run on a Thursday through Sunday
schedule, with first post time at 1 p.m. on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. on
weekends.
Santa Anita will stage its annual
Sunshine Millions Day on Saturday, Jan. 26, featuring a total of six stakes,
including the Grade II, $250,000 Santa Monica Stakes and the Grade III Santa
Ysabel Stakes.
Sunshine Millions Day will also
offer fans an all-new Santa Anita Beach Hat, free with paid admission, and
Santa Anita will also be hosting selected Food Trucks in the Infield, along
with live music and a host of California craft beers.
Santa Anita will offer $2 beers, hot
dogs and sodas on New Year’s Eve Day, Monday, Dec. 31 and will offer all
Thoroughbreds Club members a beautiful stainless steel commuter coffee mug,
free of charge.
Santa Anita’s popular Showvivor
Online Contest will return Friday, Jan. 4, and offers fans a $5,000 prize
pool. Showvivor is free to enter and requires participants to pick one
horse every race day that must finish no worse than third. Contest
information is available at santaanita.com.
Santa Anita will also offer free
General Admission to current military personnel and to those 62 years of age
and over every Thursday throughout the meet. Valid identification is
required.
