Eventful Pacific Classic Workout for Game On Dude

Game On Dude worked five furlongs in 1:01.40 Thursday morning under Martin Garcia for the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic on Sunday, August 25. Any ‘routine’ aspect of the exercise – for observers at least if not for Garcia and Game On Dude – ended shortly after it started at the half-mile pole.

As Game On Dude was rounding the stretch turn, a horse near the six-furlong chute dumped its rider and, while quickly caught, was momentarily loose. Warning buzzers sounded and red warning lights flashed briefly as the Santa Anita Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup winner rounded the turn and headed down the stretch.

Clocker Toby Turrell, who had called out an “easy” three furlongs in :36.2, noted the extra activity, said “Game On Dude is having an eventful work,” and proceeded to catch later splits of :48.60 and 1:01.2 and a gallop out around the turn “with good energy” in 1:14.80. Turrell noted that Game On Dude appeared to “skip” over the surface and that the work was done in hand, with no urging from Garcia.
