Game On Dude worked five furlongs in 1:01.40 Thursday morning under
Martin Garcia for the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic on Sunday, August
25. Any ‘routine’ aspect of the exercise – for observers at least if not
for Garcia and Game On Dude – ended shortly after it started at the
As Game On Dude was rounding the stretch turn, a horse near the
six-furlong chute dumped its rider and, while quickly caught, was
momentarily loose. Warning buzzers sounded and red warning lights
flashed briefly as the Santa Anita Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup
winner rounded the turn and headed down the stretch.
Clocker Toby Turrell, who had called out an “easy” three furlongs in
:36.2, noted the extra activity, said “Game On Dude is having an
eventful work,” and proceeded to catch later splits of :48.60 and 1:01.2
and a gallop out around the turn “with good energy” in 1:14.80. Turrell
noted that Game On Dude appeared to “skip” over the surface and that
the work was done in hand, with no urging from Garcia.
