Eldaafer Wins Breeders' Cup Marathon

Eldaafer got the 2010 Breeders' Cup off to a flying start with a smart rallying victory in the Marathon under John Velazquez. The winner returned $23.20 for trainer Diane Alvarado.

An inquiry involving runner-up Prince Will I Am, Romp, and A. U. Miner resulted in a winners' circle scuffle after the race between Javier Castallano and Calvin Borel.

Prince Will I Am was disqualified and placed 10th for interference. Gabriel's Hill was placed 2nd and A. U. Miner was moved up to 3rd.

classy horse, easy win at Atlantic city onSaturday
It is such a shame that BC gives so little respect to the Marathon (G3, $500,000) and now this fight happens. When is racing going to grow up?
Simply put, Borel embarrassed himself and the sport. Garcia was the one who had a legitimate beef. It doesn't take much for a jockey is fall into disfavor in this business and his tirade will prove costly.
Pretty harsh, but it;s worth noting that while Javier Castellano rode five winners in one day at Saratoga, Calvin Borel only managed four wins for the entire Spa meet. Maybe that sort of explains the "bad blood" that supposedly exists between them...
Borel is reading too many of his press clippings and not riding worth a hoot.
