Alexis Barba, trainer of Alphie’s Bet, glanced at a sheet with only eight nominees for the $200,000 Swaps Stakes July 17.

“It’s not big, but it’s tough,” said Barba of the Grade II test for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles on Cushion Track.

Expected to join Sham and Snow Chief stakes winner Alphie’s Bet are Santa Anita Derby winner Sidney’s Candy, Affirmed Handicap winner Golden Itiz, Affirmed runner-up Skipshot and Iowa Derby winner Concord Point.

Also nominated are Pinal, Summer Movie and Twirling Candy.
