Edgewood Easier Spot for Niji's Grand Girl

Ken McPeek considered the Kentucky Oaks for his filly Niji's Grand Girl but he went for the path of least resistance in Friday's grassy $100,000 Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs.

The daughter of Candy Ride, out of a Nijinsky II mare, is certainly bred for turf and she landed the show in both outings on the weeds. The consistent, versatile sort exits a rallying show finish in the Fair Grounds Oaks and reunites with Julien Leparoux.

Smart Sting is 2-for-2 on the turf for Roger Attfield and she should be close to an expected tepid early pace. She has had plenty of time to recover from her last and another forward move could get the job done.

Holidaysatthefarm finished in front of Niji's Grand Girl in the Florida Oaks before a troubled journey in the Herecomesthebride on March 13. The late striding daighter of Smarty Jones attracts Garrett Gomez and can rebound.

Gaya closed powerfully to post a visually impressive score at Fair Grounds when last seen  on March 19 and she could rumble past these at square odds.

The 10-horse field also includes Diva Ash, Subpoena, Bonita Star, My Phi Temper, Sassy's Dream, and My Redbyrd.
