Eblouissante, a half-sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, was
scratched Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park, less than 30 minutes prior
to what was to be her second start.
An impressive debut winner Nov. 16 for owner-breeder Eric Kronfeld,
the 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini and the prolific broodmare
Vertigineux banged her hip leaving the receiving barn, losing some of
her hide in the process, according to the Betfair Hollywood Park
stewards.
This necessitated Eblouissante’s declaration from the afternoon’s
fourth, an optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track. The
Kentucky bred was 1-9 when the scratch was announced.
Whether or not she misses any training remains to be seen, according
to John Shirreffs, who also conditioned Zenyatta during a brilliant
career that included 19 wins in 20 starts and earnings of $7,304,580.
“She bruised her hip,’’ said Shirreffs. “It’s hard to say (if she’ll
miss any training). We’ll have to see how she is when she walks out of
the stall (Sunday).’’
