Woodview Farm’s Eagle Putt
broke in stride to make the pace and continued willingly in the late
stages to capture Sunday’s featured $53,000 allowance optional claiming
sprint for older fillies and mares at Fair Grounds by 3 3/4-lengths.
Ridden by
Richard Eramia and trained by Jeff Thornbury,
Eagle Putt accomplished the about 5 1/2-furlong distance over the
Stall-Wilson turf course in 1:05.04 after carving out early
splits of 23:17 and 47.70. The daughter of Pioneering out of Birdie
Putt increased her career earnings to $66,580 with her third win in
seven lifetime starts and returned mutuels of $16.80, $8.80 and $6.20.
David Garner’s
Elusive Jozi, never far
back, could not catch the winner but was easily second best, paying
$5.20 and $3.40 while finishing 2 1 /2-lengths in front of Maggi Moss’s
Speedy Spice, who returned $3.80 to show as the choice of the fans.
