Dynamic Range, claimed for $40,000 in May at Hollywood Park,
declared a dividend on his new owners' investment Thursday with a
come-from-behind triumph in Del Mar's feature race at a mile and three-eighths
over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
Sent postward the favorite at 3-2 under jockey Martin
Garcia, Dynamic Range rallied strongly in the stretch to win by almost two
lengths in 2:13.94 for the marathon distance. Hog's Hollow outfinished longshot
Ducane by a head for second money, with Racketeer fourth in the field of six
older horses; Falcon Rock was scratched earlier in the afternoon.
Dynamic Range, a four-year-old gelding by Dynaformer,
returned $5, $3.20 and $2.40 after his fourth win in 16 career outings. The
horse is owned by the Indizguys Stable of brothers Jack and Doug Disney, Ross
Newhan, Paul Salata and Buck Rodgers and trained by Mike Mitchell.
Runner-up Hog's Hollow paid $4.80 and $3.60, while Ducane
returned $6.20 to show.
Thursday's attendance was 9,702.
