Stonecrest Farm’s Dyani
got up in the final jump to edge Up in Lights by a nose to win the
$61,905 allowance feature for fillies and mares on Sunday afternoon at
Churchill Downs.
Trained by Eddie Kenneally and
ridden by Julien Leparoux, Dyani was ninth at the head of stretch and launched
her winning drive seven wide, nailing Up in Lights right at the wire.
Dyani covered the 1 3/8 miles on
a firm Matt Winn Turf Course in 2:22.42. The victory was worth $36,768 and
increased Dyani’s earnings to $121,902 with a record of 15-2-3-4.
Dyani, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred
daughter of Dynaformer, returned mutuels of $7.20, $4 and $3.40 as the second
choice in the field of 12. Up in Lights, ridden by Michael Baze, returned $5.80
and $5.20 with Molly Molly Molly finishing 1 1/2 lengths back in third
under Robby Albarado and paying $7 to show.
