“HANSEN” to Run for the Fans
Owner pledges percentage of winnings to ThoroFan
When last year’s 2-year-old-horse-of-the-year, Hansen, enters the gate to run in the 138th
Kentucky Derby he will, of course, be
running to win , and if things work out,
he’ll also be helping to support the development
of the Thoroughbred racing fan base.
ThoroFan Chairman, Michael
Amo, announced that he has been contacted by Dr. Kendall Hansen, owner of
Hansen, who has made the Thoroughbred Racing Fan Association, Inc. (ThoroFan)
an incredibly generous offer. In an e-mail received on April 19th
through www.thorofan.com, Dr. Hansen wrote, “Let me know if there is anything
I can do for your great organization.” In a subsequent e-mail, Hansen’s owner offered some help.
Referencing potential
winnings from Hansen on May 5th at Churchill Downs, Dr. Hansen wrote,
“I will donate 1% of my share of the winnings from the Kentucky Derby.” Amo
said, “Dr. Hansen’s offer and
willingness to help build the racing fan base - a major goal of ThoroFan- is
just the thing that is needed. Members of ThoroFan, especially the Kentucky
Chapter, will be out in full force cheering for our newest member, Hansen”
Dr. Hansen, also, said that he
..”can raise awareness through speaking up about the two charities Hansen will
be running for in the Derby---ThoroFan and New Vocations. New Vocations is an organization that works to find retired
race horses new professions.
ThoroFan is a national,
non-profit Thoroughbred Racing Fan Association, Inc. which was established in
2008 to retain and enrich existing fans, seek out and attract new fans and give
each fan, regardless of involvement, a voice to the industry
