A disqualification of the favorite for an incident near the finish of the day’s ninth and final race resulted in a Pick Six carryover of $102,596 into Sunday at Santa Anita. It is expected Sunday’s total Pick Six pool will exceed $600,000 by fourth race post time, the first installment in Sundays “Six.”

In a driving finish to the nightcap wire, even-money favorite Mon Coeur and Joel Rosario shifted outward and knocked Teasing Bernie with Martin Pedroza up, off stride, resulting in a dramatic spill that both Teasing Bernie and Pedroza quickly recovered from.

Barring any late scratches, Sunday’s Pick Six will offer fans an average of 8.1 horses per race. The shortest price morning line favorite is Reneesgotzip in the day’s main event, the Grade II, $150,000 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 6 ½ furlongs. A first-out maiden special weight winner at Hollywood Park on Dec. 18, she’s trained by Peter Miller and will be ridden by Corey Nakatani.

The second choice in the six-horse Santa Ynez is the John Sadler-conditioned Rowdy Gal at 5-2. Undefeated in two starts this fall at Hollywood Park, she’ll be ridden by Rosario.

Sunday’s supporting feature is the $75,000 added Paseana Handicap for older fillies and mare at 1 1/16 miles. The Paseana goes as the eighth race.

What the Nation is saying about Disqualification Leads to SA Pick 6 Carryover ...

it was warranted. Bernie was driving and may have overtaken Mon Cour at the wire. Ugly spill that came out OK in the end.
