Diamonds in the Rough - 2013 Update

Keeneland Sale 615 X 400
Photo: Eclipse Sportswire
Before the start of the Keeneland Yearling Sale of 2013, I reviewed 14 colts and fillies with nice pedigrees whose cost shouldn't break the bank in the Diamonds in the Rough article. With this year's ultimate yearling sale concluded, let's take a look at how they did in the ring.

Just to show how tough it can be to sell or purchase a yearling, of the 14, two were RNA (Reserve Not Attained), and half of the selections didn't make it to the sales ring. Perhaps they'll show up in later sales or at the two year old auctions.

Yearlings can be difficult to follow until they re-surface either at a two year old in training sale or on the racetrack. If you have connections to any of these babies, I'd appreciate it if you could email me occasionally informing me of their progress.

Laurie, I have not been one to anticipate yearling sales in the past, but your article drew some interest. I was disappointed in the early retirement of Majesticperfection. He had beaten the eventual BC Sprint Champ, Big Drama, with ease, prior to his retirement due to injury. He was bought by Airdrie Stables, and, I think, this might be his first crop. Did you, by chance, spot any offspring of his at this sale?
That just shows how tough it is to actually get the horse you want with all the outs and RNAs. It will be fun to follow your picks to see how they run. I look forward to seeing you again at BC13!
I, too, would like to follow Nos. 2970 & 3077. Also, #446 (Tiznow - Silken Cat) .
