Del Mar's Jockey Photo Day Set for July 21

Del Mar logo

Jockey Photo Day, a chance for racing fans to have their pictures taken with racing’s riding stars, will move way up this summer from its usual Labor Day date to the first Sunday of the meeting – July 21.

The snapshot session, which is held from noon to 1 p.m., once again will be conducted in the track’s Plaza de Mexico in the Stretch Run area around the large fountain. This will be the 20th consecutive year the riders have volunteered to be part of this fan-friendly event.

Individuals or families need only bring their cameras and their smiles in order to have their pictures taken with the likes of Mike Smith, Gary Stevens, Rafael Bejarano, Garrett Gomez, Joe Talamo and many of the other regular Del Mar riders.

Del Mar’s 37-day season will run from Wednesday, July 17 to Wednesday, September 4. Racing will be held on a Wednesday through Sunday basis with one additional day thrown in – Monday, September 2, which is Labor Day.

Gourmet Food Truck Festival

Returns On August 3

Food truck fans will hit the jackpot Saturday, August 3 at Del Mar when the track holds its third edition of its Gourmet Food Truck Festival with an even bigger and better lineup than in the past.

In what will be California’s largest food truck gathering of the year, more than 50 of the popular trucks will fill the Seaside Stage area on the western end of the Del Mar grandstand for an eclectic and electric combination of smells and tastes that are sure to please even the most discerning of diners.

From grilled cheese sandwiches to spicy Cajun delights, from salads to oh-so-sweet deserts, and for anything and everything in between, the festival is sure to have one of every kind for those who bring their appetites to the track.

The food trucks will be open and serving from noon to 6 p.m. and there will be no charge to access their location. First post for the 10-race card that afternoon will be 2 p.m.
