Trainer Julio Canani proclaimed Blue Chagall, winner of Wednesday's $80,300 Wickerr Handicap at a mile on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course, in fine shape Thursday morning.

In addition, he said the French-bred 5-year-old would run next in the Grade II, $250,000 Del Mar Mile on the turf on Saturday, August 28.

"That's my 40th stakes win at Del Mar, and I don't got no blue eyes," the colorful native of Peru said.

Canani's 40 wins puts him seventh on Del Mar's all-time list of stakes-winning trainers, a list led by Bob Baffert's 86.

The trainer said The Pamplemousse, who was on the Triple Crown trail in 2009 before injury sidelined him, will breeze for the first time on the comeback trail Sunday, scheduled to go 3 furlongs.
