Dear Mr. Fantasy – Dial “A” for Awesome

With all the excitement of the recently completed Triple Crown, I have not had a chance to venture into the racing laboratory of late. I put a stop to that trend late last night. I put on my racing lab coat, turned on the Bunsen burners, started mixing potions, and tested any and all hypothesis that popped up during the wee hours of the morning. The result was astounding. A fabulous fantasy field was formed. Full of class, this assemblage of champions has more trophies on the mantle than the New York Yankees. Males and female stars going back more than one hundred years, are set to run a fantasy race destined to be talked about for another hundred years. Top jockeys have secured the mounts, and each horse comes into the race at the very peak of their talents. Arlington Park will host the festivities, with the horses battling on their old dirt track at the distance of 1 3/16 miles for the $5 million dollar purse. The big race, which will be sponsored by Applebee's, will be run on June 26. Without further adieu, here's the field:

1. Ack Ack (W. Shoemaker)   12-1
Swept Older Horse, Sprinter, and Horse of the Year in 1971.
2. Affectionately (W. Blum)   20-1
Hirsch Jacobs called her the best horse he ever trained.
3. Affirmed (S. Cauthen)   4-1
America's last Triple Crown winner was a 3-year champion.

4. Afleet Alex (J. Rose)   15-1
Incredible Preakness led to 3-year old championship in '05.
5. Alydar (J. Velasquez)   6-1
Affirmed's rival was an incredible runner in his own right.
6. Alysheba (C. McCarron)  8-1
2-time champion won the Derby, Preakness and a BC Classic
7. Alsab (G. Woolf)  10-1
2-time champion once defeated Whirlaway in a match race.
8. A.P.Indy (E. Delahoussaye)   15-1
'92 Horse of the Year won the Belmont and BC Classic.
9. Arazi (P. Valenzuela)   20-1
Euro Horse of the Year won the BC Juvenile in super style.
10. Armed (D. Dodson)   8-1
41-time winner was named Horse of the Year in 1947.

11. Artful (W. Miller)   20-1
Filly defeated both Sysonby and Beldame in her short career.

12. Arts and Letters (B. Baeza)   15-1
1969 champion won Belmont and 5 other big stakes in a row.

13. Assault (W. Mehrtens)  8-1
Triple Crown winner and the Horse of the Year of 1946.
14. Azeri (M. Smith)  15-1
3-time champion was named the Horse of the Year in 2002.

I think Ack Ack sweeps
Mike, you are way off ... Against two triple crown winners, Alydar, Alysheba, et all? No possibility of even single digits.
mr fantasty - your odds on A.P. Indy at 15-1 is a joke, He would be no higher than 3-1
Will go with the heart and say Affirmed with Azeri a close second. AP Indy and Alysheba a head-bob for the tri!
Everyone on the outside of the 10 hole is at a severe disadvantage in my opinion, short run to the clubhouse turn
I always believed Alydar was better than affirmed , so I take his more attractive odds and wheel him over, Affirmed, Alysheba, A.P. Indy and my longshot play Arazi
Dear me, I love Azeri but against this field, I have to go again with Affirmed....
No there was not, Andy ... and Scott is right, 8-1 on Alysheba is awfully attractive. Exacta will pays are looking good! ;-)
Affirmed!! Was there a tougher horse to get by in the stretch???
I might have to do a 10 horse exacta box here! :)
8-1 on Alysheba.. Where do I book this action??
