New Jersey-bred Dabnabit has drawn post position five, the
outside stall in the $75,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park
on Monday, and this sits perfectly fine with his trainer, Luis Carvajal Jr.
“I’m happy with the outside,” Carvajal said. “There’s a lot of speed in the race. With the outside, if we don’t break on the
lead, he’ll be in the clear and can hopefully come with a run from there.”
Dabnabit exits a victory in the John J. Reilly Handicap, for
J-breds, on May 28, when he went gate to wire at 16-1. And while his charge will face only four
rivals, Carvajal knows it’s a tough event.
“He’s facing some really strong horses,” the trainer
said. “But he’s doing well and should
run well.”
The speed in the race will likely come from the inside two
posts, with Sean Avery coming from the one hole and Fabulous Strike just to his
outside.
The lightly-raced 5-year-old Sean Avery will be making just
his ninth career start in the six furlong Mr. Prospector. He was an ultra-impressive winner of the
Longfellow on June 5 at Monmouth, winning by nearly 12 lengths in race horse
time of 1:09 1/5 for the six panels.
Fabulous Strike, an 8-year-old gelding, sports over $1.4
million in earnings, most of that coming in company with the top sprinters in
the country. A multiple graded stakes
winner, Fabulous Strike will be making his third start in 2011 when he heads to
the post in the Mr. Prospector, which goes as race nine on the 12 race Fourth
of July program.
