Crown of Thorns Retired to Spendthrift Farm

Spendthrift Farm’s multiple grade II winner Crown of Thorns has been retired from racing, according to an Oct. 12 Daily Racing Form story.

The bay horse’s Hall of Fame conditioner, Richard Mandella, told the publication that the decision was reached after he spent time in Kentucky recently with Spendthrift owner B. Wayne Hughes. The trainer said the 6-year-old son of Repent has a “nagging knee problem.”
