Champion 3YO Filly

This year there are some amazing three-year old fillies.  But the question is, who will be named Champion 3YO Filly?  Right now the leading fillies are Princess of Sylmar and Beholder.  Beholder is just coming off of a win in the Breeders' Cup Distaff.  But while she's been hiding all summer, Princess of Sylmar has been making a name for herself.  After beating Beholder in the Kentucky Oaks, Princess of Sylmar went on to win the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks. She then beat Black Eyed Susan Stakes winner Fiftyshadesofhay in the G1 Alabama.

In the Beldame Invitational, Princess of Sylmar beat 2-time Breeders Cup Distaff winner, Royal Delta. The Princess flew right by the 5 year old mare to win by two lengths.  In the Breeders' Cup Distaff, she stumbled badly coming out of the gate.  Princess of Sylmar was out of her normal position all the way around the track.  She crossed the finish line in last place.  Racing her in the Breeders' Cup right after a huge win over Royal Delta in the Beldame Invitational was too much for her.  Now lets look at Beholder.

Beholder ended her 2 year old season with a major win in the Breeders Cup Juvenile.  She began her 3 year old season with a second place finish in the G2 Santa Ynez at Santa Anita Racetrack.   She then came back to win the Las Virgenes and the Santa Anita Oaks, earning her a spot int the Kentucky Oaks.  During the post parade for the Kentucky Oaks, Beholder threw her jockey. Although she had a clean start and she was second all the way around the track.  Coming down the stretch she was tackled by fast closing long shot Princess of Sylmar who won by 3/4 of a length.  After four months of training, Beholder won the Torrey Pines Stakes, then went on to win the Zenyatta Stakes. During the Breeders Cup Distaff, Beholder surprisingly sat off the pace, sitting in fourth.  Coming around the final turn she made her move and surged away to win by 4 1/2 lengths, with comeback kid, Gary Stevens, aboard, winning his first Breeders Cup in thirteen years.

At the moment, the Champion 3YO Filly is undecided.  These two horses are very talented, but only one can be named Champion 3YO Filly.
