Byrama Might Face Males in Pacific Classic

Four-year-old filly Byrama, winner of the Grade I Vanity Handicap on June 15 at Hollywood Park and third behind Lady of Fifty in the Grade I Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar on August 3, has been nominated for the TVG Pacific Classic and might be given the opportunity to become the first of her gender to win the $1 million event.

“More likely than not,” trainer Simon Callaghan said Friday morning. “We’re going to breeze her on Sunday and it will depend on how she works and comes out of it. We’re thinking about taking a shot. She likes the track and she’s been training well.

“She gets the (five pound) sex allowance in the weights and I don’t think (gender) makes much difference once they get to a certain age.” Under modified weight-for-age race conditions, Byrama would carry 119 pounds to 124 for older males.
