Glen Hill Farm’s homebred Broken Dreams,
pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G2), turned in her second
work at Keeneland on Thursday when she breezed five furlongs in a
bullet :59.80. Clockers caught Broken Dreams galloping out in 1:14.20.
Tom
Proctor trains Broken Dreams, a 5-year-old daughter of Broken Vow who
is coming off a win on September 30 in the Senator Ken Maddy (G3) at
about 6½ furlongs at Santa Anita. On October 21, in her first move since
that race, she worked four furlongs at Keeneland in :49.60.
For
Glen Hill in 1994, Proctor sent out Broken Dreams’ second dam, One
Dreamer, to win the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at odds of 47-1. He said
Broken Dreams’ name reflects the hard luck One Dreamer has had as a
producer. Her first foal was the Storm Cat filly Our Dreamer, who was
unraced but became the dam of Broken Dreams, the only stakes winner
among her descendants.
Broken
Dreams has five wins in 15 starts and earnings of $244,233. She joins
two other females – Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) winner Holiday for
Kitten and Rapport, who was fourth in that race – who were pre-entered
in the Turf Sprint. Proctor had one prediction for Broken Dreams’
performance in the Breeders’ Cup.
“I bet she’ll be a shorter price than her grandmother,” he said.
Proctor
said Broken Dreams probably would ship on Friday to Churchill, where he
has another Glen Hill runner aimed at the Breeders’ Cup. That horse is
undefeated Customer Base, a daughter of Lemon Drop Kid who won a
Keeneland allowance on October 19. She was pre-entered in the Breeders’
Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2).
