Forest Boyce is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where she majored in drawing.
It's something the 26-year-old intends to pursue after she finishes racing Thoroughbreds, her other main interest.
"This is something I always wanted to do," said Boyce, who had five mounts during opening day Wednesday at Colonial Downs. Her best finish came in the fifth race, when the native of Monkton, Md., rode Archive to fifth place.
"Art was something I enjoy and it was a way to get through college. I have all intentions of staying with it. But it's a hard way to make a living. But this is as well, you know. I have two fields that I like, (and they're both) real hard to make a living in."
