What the Nation is saying about Bobby Frankel dead at 68...

This is truly a very sad day and a tragic loss for the thoroughbred racing industry. Bobby Frankel was absolutely one of the best and classiest trainers that ever participated in racing. As cigar said, if he had a horse in the race, you alway's paid attention. Truly, heart felt condolences to the family of Bobby Frankel. He was a class act that will be sorely missed at the track.
The true testament to Frankel was that no matter what race, what horse, what distance or what surface, when he had a horse entered, you paid attention... perhaps even giving the horse a second or third look out of respect for Frankel's ability.
Bobby Frankel was a living legend. Never ran a horse that wasn't dead fit. The year he set the recored for G1 wins will always stand out in my mind. Can't tell you how many times a Bobby Frankel horse beat me but for some reason it never really bothered me because I was trying to beat the best there is. Sad day for racing, indeed
Racing lost one of its best today. In my minds eye I can still see him walking the path from the barns to the paddock at Santa Anita with that big smile flashing all the way. The best comment I can make on his career was one I read in the paper the day Missionary Ridge won the Pacific Classic as a big long shot. The comment on Missionary Ridge simply said "Frankel trains- has four legs" That's all you really needed to know. The comment was so poignant I stuck with me all these years.
Sad news. One of the greatest trainers this game has ever seen.
