Blind Luck Nips Havre De Grace in Del 'Cap Thriller

Blind Luck beat Havre De Grace for the fourth time in six outings in an outstanding renewal of the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap.

As expected, Life At Ten went to the front from the inside post and traded early punches with Thundering Emilia through splits of :23-3/5, :47-4/5, and 1:12-2/5.

Life At Ten put away her longshot pace rival but Havre De Grace had dead aim turning for home.

Havre De Grace briefly opened up but Blind Luck was grinding away under Garrett Gomez and they battled all the way to the wire with Blind Luck getting her nose down on the line.

Havre De Grace had no excuses sitting a perfect trip over her home track for trainer Larry Jones.  Life At Ten finished 3rd and was follwed by Love's Blush and Thundering Emilia.

Blind Luck, a 4-year-old daughter of Pollard's Vision, stopped the clock in 2:01-1/5 and paid $4.20 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Just one small correction in the story above....she's the daughter of Pollard's Vision, not Pollard's Luck! Named for Seabiscuit's rider, Red Pollard, both were/are blind in their right eye! PV was a stakes winner, too.
Andy, luckily in this case, BOTH horses know how to swap their leads! lol.
  • annmatt · And Garrett only gave her mostly a hand ride!!! He said in an interview that she doesn't like to be hit on the left, so I think most of his urging was by hand. What I was most amazed to find out about BL is she is just a tad over 15 hands!!! She's a little thing under 1,000 lbs! · 1101 days ago
One of the greatest races I ever witnessed. The crowd was great and the roar that was heard as Blind Luck and Havre De Grace raced to the finish was chilling. It's between these two for H.O.Y. Could you believe we might have the consecutive female H.O.Y.?
  • katrina · I Agree. I was there too! that was one Heck of a moment when the two of them came down the line! I was standing up and screaming! screaming for Harve De Grace! that girl was running her heart out! she should have won the race. lets face it without the handicap Grace wins!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and how bout what a Beautiful day it was weather wise. couldn't ask for more. · 1101 days ago
  • annmatt · Not just consecutive but a tri-fecta for HOY! Would be unprecedented if a filly won HOY for a third straight year! This could sure be the year for it to happen! · 1101 days ago
How bout Race # 9. I thought " In the juice " had won the race! sure looked that way to me. and how bout the last race, boy that "Tiki Barber came through for me!
I most definitely believe it.
Could you believe we might have three consecutive females as H.O.Y.?
Great ride by go go! Blind Luck best filly in the country and candidate for HOY.
i would like to see these fillies run against the big horses in the breeders cup classic..
I still like blind luck better -- she runs in the back, she has a more powerful charge than havre.. she seems to run faster longer as well too! i think the times havre has beat her. blind luck just started her charge just a tad too late!
Great race!
Only really consistent division, and these two are the best of the best! They both ran a great race and should be congratulated...they never disappoint! I think we need to start calling Blind Luck the "Iron Lady"....she is just awesome....Coming off the Vanity, she looked awfully good, and she just seems to be getting better and better! Hope she tries for the Breeders Cup in the Classic, not the Ladies Classic! That was a great time in the 1 1/4 mi she clocked!
Great Race !! Blind Luck is Unreal! I think they should do it again in around 5 weeks!!
Blind Luck is to Havre De Grace as Affrimed is to Alydar.
I hate to say I told you so but...oh wait, I love saying that!!!!! Blind Luck is this year's queen of racing and anyone who didn't know it before knows it now! The horse who supposedly was the best in America just got nailed on the wire once again on her home track. She had everything her own way, but no amount of class can overcome the heart of a champion. Ya hear that Zipse!!!! I'm talking to you!
God, what a race!!! Spetacular fillies
Blind Luck, always amazing! <3
Amazing race!!! That's what horse racing is all about. Two great horses going down to the wire
