Biofuel Retired After Chipping Sesamoid

Biofuel, last year's Canadian Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old filly, has been retired from racing because of a chipped sesamoid. The injury occurred in the Ontario Matron Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Woodbine July 24 in Biofuel’s second start of the year. She finished third in the race.

“We knew something wasn’t right the way she finished up,” said Brereton C. Jones, Biofuel’s breeder/owner and owner of Airdrie Stud near Midway, Ky. “It wasn’t the way she always finishes up. In an hour or two she was lame. It’s not a life threatening injury."
