Belmont Stakes 2012: Jockey Mario Gutierrez

There is no doubt that jockey Mario Gutierrez had his biggest win in 2012 on I’ll Have Another in the Kentucky Derby. Gutierrez has been racing since 2006, when he recorded his first win.

Since 2006 Gutierrez has over 3,000 starts with 666 wins. With much of his notoriety coming through I’ll Have Another, Gutierrez sits 13th in the national jockey standings among purse money won. However, will this fame and notoriety continue if Gutierrez doesn’t secure the third jewel of the Triple Crown?

After the Preakness, Gutierrez posted on his Twitter page, “@Ill_HaveAnother is the most amazing experience of my life. U make me realize that no matter what dreams can come true. U are my hero :)” The 2012 Belmont Stakes will cap off six weeks of some of the biggest races Gutierrez will ever ride in his life. Just this past year, Guiterrez moved his tack from Hastings Park in Canada to California to ride with some of the best jockeys in North America.

According to Twitter, Mario Gutierrez is expected to ride the entire week prior to the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park.

I was saddend to hear that yong Puhich, a mainstay in Nothwest racing for many years, passed on before his father.
without the tutelage provided by Troy Taylor, patrick Kinsella and most of all Glen Todd, you would have never haerd of this tallented fellow. They groomed him, suggested he get his feet wet at GGF for two seasons, and just gave him the confidence and attention this tallented young man needed to crack the big time
85 year young Ivan Puhich
THat's pretty smart. Who's his agent?
