With leading sire Trippi being sold to
stand at stud in South
Africa in 2008, here’s your chance to own a
piece of his final crop as an American stallion.
In 2007, Trippi was Florida’s leading sire
with progeny earnings of $4.3 million and his three-year-old daughter R Heat
Lightning, a Grade I winner at two, is coming off a Gulfstream Oaks (Grade II)
victory in April that gave her seven top two finishes from eight career starts
and pushed her earnings over $950,000.
His Florida-bred two-year-old daughter Be
My Babe, the first foal out of the unraced dam Truely Genuine (12 winners from
2nd and 3rd dams), is currently in training at Santa
Anita with Carla Gaines, who knows what it takes to be successful with female
doing everything well within herself. We’re just letting her stretch her legs
right now,” said Gaines, who in over 24 years of training has surpassed $20
million in purse earnings and is approaching 3,000 career wins. “She’s doing
great. We love her.”
Gaines currently campaigns the
stakes-winning fillies Malibu Pier, who is Grade I placed and has earned over
$400,000 while winning 6-of-11 career starts including the Beverly Hills
Handicap (Grade III) at Hollywood Park this past weekend and both the Santa Ana
and Santa Barbara (Grade II’s) at Santa Anita earlier this year, and Mildly
Offensive, who recently won both races to start her career by over four lengths
including the $100,000 Santa Paula Stakes.
In 2007-08, Gaines trained the multiple
Grade I winning super star Nashoba’s Key, who earned over $1.2 million while
winning eight of her ten career starts.
“That might be an understatement,” said
Gaines with a chuckle when asked if Be My Babe has a competitive edge. “She’s very
aggressive, which I like in fillies. She’s showing a great competitive spirit.
It’s really hard to gallop her in company because she tries to kick her
Be My Babe was purchased at the OBS sale
in March for $80,000 on the advice of TVG analyst and bloodstock consultant
Nick Hines, who has repeatedly demonstrated a keen eye for talent and
compliments it with the hard work needed to scout horse racing’s future stars.
“She was a little keyed up at the sale, so
they gave her some time off and we brought her in and we’re just getting her to
relax and do her works real easily and she’s coming along super,” said Gaines.
Hines also picked out a two-year-old City
Zip colt from the same sale which turned out to be Majestic
City, who recently won both starts to
begin his career including the $70,000 Willard L. Proctor Memorial at Hollywood Park.
At last year’s OBS June sale, Hines came
away with Flightofalifetime, who is in training with Bob Baffert and began his
career with a pair of Beyer Speed Figures in the 90’s including in his maiden

“Hopefully, she’ll run at Del Mar,” Gaines said
regarding a target for Be My Babe’s debut. “It depends on how she comes along.”
Shares of Be My Babe are being offered at
$10,000 for every 10% increment. This fair market valuation allows investors to
share in the thrill of owning a potential winning race horse while also giving
them the best chance at making a profit … something that seems like a foreign
concept for most of the existing syndicates in the industry.
