Baker's Dozen Set for Wide Open Spinster

Thirteen fillies and mares passed the entry box Thursday morning for Sunday’s 56th running of the $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster (G1) to be run at 1 1/8 miles on the main track.

The Juddmonte Spinster, a “Win and You’re In” race for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) to be run November 4 at Churchill Downs, will go as the ninth race on Sunday’s 10-race program with a 5:45 p.m. (ET) post time. First post time Sunday is 1:15 p.m.

Fares Farm’s Embur’s Song, winner of the Doubledogdare (G3) on the main track here this spring, will make her Grade 1 debut for trainer Todd Pletcher. Undefeated in two starts at Keeneland and a two-time Grade 3 winner on Woodbine’s all-weather surface, Embur’s Song will break from post position seven and be ridden by Jesus Castanon.

Two other Juddmonte Spinster entrants have graded stakes victories on all-weather surfaces: La Gran Bailadora and Pachattack.

Tracy Farmer’s La Gran Bailadora won the Kentucky Cup Distaff (G3) at Turfway Park on September 24 in her most recent start. Trained by Mike Maker, La Gran Bailadora will be ridden by Corey Lanerie and break from post position six.

Druid Racing’s Pachattack was a six-length winner of the Arlington Matron (G3) on May 28, defeating La Gran Bailadora. In her most recent start, Pachattack ran second in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga. Trained by Gerard Butler, Pachattack will be ridden by Rajiv Maragh and break from post position 12.

Two other Woodbine main-track stakes winners are in the Juddmonte Spinster field: Sugar Again and Stars to Shine.

Augustin Stable’s Sugar Again won the Ruling Angel at 6½ furlongs last fall at Woodbine. Trained by Jonathan Sheppard, Sugar Again will break from post position four under Alex Solis.

Richard Brown’s Stars to Shine was a 3¾-length winner of the Belle Mahone at Woodbine in August going 1 1/16 miles. Trained by Mark Frostad, Stars to Shine will break from post position five under William Buick.

The field for the Juddmonte Spinster, from the rail out, is as follows: Super Espresso (Julien Leparoux, 124 pounds), Aruna (Ramon Dominguez, 124), Tapitsfly (Robby Albarado, 124), Sugar Again (Solis, 124), Stars to Shine (Buick, 124), La Gran Bailadora (Lanerie, 124), Embur’s Song (Castanon, 124), Tesoro de Amor (Juan Leyva, 124), Dynazaper (Edgar Prado, 124), Theyskens’ Theory (Kent Desormeaux, 121), Protesting (John Velazquez, 124), Pachattack (Maragh, 124) and Well Monied (Garrett Gomez, 124).
