Baffert Enters Four in Hollywood Prevue

Bob Baffert
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert is likely to add to his record total of victories in the $100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes when the Grade III is run for the 31st time Thursday.

Restricted to 2-year-olds and run at seven furlongs over Cushion Track, the Prevue is the first of nine races on the Thanksgiving program. Post time is 11 a.m. Track gates will open at 9:30 a.m.

Baffert, who won the Prevue for a fifth time last year with So Brilliant, entered Super Ninety Nine, Shakin It Up, Z Big Apple and Really Mr. Greely. The other entrant is Heir Kitty, a filly trained by Peter Miller.

An impressive first out winner Oct. 7 at Santa Anita, Super Ninety Nine was to have made his second start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint Nov. 2, but was scratched after he became cast in his stall the night before.

Owned by Tanma Corporation, the Pulpit colt out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Exogenetic won by 1 ¼ lengths in his debut at the Prevue distance. The win was worth $28,200.

Owned by breeder Mike Pegram and Dennis Cardoza, Shakin It Up is 1-for-2, graduating by 4 ½ lengths Oct. 27 at Santa Anita after finishing second to Super Ninety Nine. The son of Midnight Lute and the Vindication mare Silver Bullet Moon has banked $37,600.

Like Super Ninety Nine, Z Big Apple won in his initiation, prevailing by three-quarters of a length as the 6-5 favorite Oct. 20 in Arcadia. The Malibu Moon colt out of the Storm Cat mare Stormy Monday earned $28,200 for the victory. He was a $250,000 purchase at a Florida sale in April by Zayat Stables LLC.

Fourth behind Z Big Apple, Really Mr Greely broke his maiden by 7 ½ lengths in his second race, a $100,000 claimer Nov. 4 at Santa Anita.

Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman own the son of Horse Greely and the Forest Camp mare Mattie Camp. He’s earned $25,620.

Heir Kitty will try to become the first female winner of the Prevue. Owned by David Bernsen and Paul Makin, the daughter of Wildcat Heir and the Silver Buck mare Be Silver has won once in three starts and earned $66,000. She was last seen finishing fifth in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante Sept. 1.

From inside out, the field for the Hollywood Prevue Stakes: Heir Kitty, Garrett Gomez rides, 1113 pounds; Shakin It Up, Martin Garcia, 116; Z Big Apple, Joe Talamo, 116; Really Mr Greely, Julien Leparoux, 116 and Super Ninety Nine, Rafael Bejarano, 116.
