The Breeders’ Cup announced today the launch of the
Tweeters’ Cup (www.tweeterscup.com), a
virtual initiative that will encourage fans and celebrities to participate by
Tweeting their pick for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. For every tweet, the
Breeders’ Cup will donate $1 (up to $75,000) to the Breeders’ Cup official
charity, Children Mending
Hearts. The Breeders’ Cup will also pick
a participant at random that uses the designated hashtag, #tweeterscup or
#BC12, to receive VIP trip to the 30th running of the Breeders’ Cup
World Championships, which will be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.
Back in its second year, the Tweeters’ Cup, which
launches today, will run up until post time of the Breeders’ Cup Classic on
Saturday, Nov. 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT.
“Everyone has a favorite
leading into the Breeders’ Cup Classic and there’s always a lot of conversation
on Twitter around the Breeders’ Cup.” said Peter Rotondo, Breeders’ Cup Vice
President of Media and Entertainment. “The Tweeters’ Cup combines people’s
excitement for the race, while streamlining the conversations already happening
within social media.”
TweetersCup.com features a
display of the 12 horses in the Classic field, including favorites Game On Dude
and Flat Out, with a running tally of how many tweets (votes) each horse has
received. The site also contains a live feed of @BreedersCup, in addition to
hashtags #tweeterscup and #BC12, so fans can easily follow the conversation.
