Colizeo controlled the pace but could hold off Apart in the Grade 3 William Donald Schaefer Memorial at Pimlico on Preakness Saturday.

Colizeo was in command setting comfortable fractions of :24.38, :48.83, and 1:13.19 under John Velazquez but Apart was never far back.

Garrett Gomez made his wide move around the far turn aboard Apart and gradually wore down Colizeo to post a neck tally. Icabad Crane rallied for last to finish 3rd.

Trained by Al Stall Jr., Apart completed the mile and a sixteenth distance in 1:43.70 and paid $4.40 as the solid favorite.

Researcher, Our Dark Knight, and Saratoga Red completed the order of finish.
