Team Valor International’s Animal Kingdom,
the 2011 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, remains on track to have his final
workout for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Keeneland,
according to trainer Graham Motion.
“The plan right now is to work here one time, probably the last
weekend of the meet and then go on out to California,” Motion said
Thursday morning of Animal Kingdom, who worked six furlongs on the grass
in 1:18 on Wednesday at the Fair Hill (Md.) Training Center.
The Breeders’ Cup Mile, scheduled for November 3 at Santa Anita,
would be the first start for Animal Kingdom since a February victory at
Gulfstream Park. Animal Kingdom missed 60 days of training because of a
stress fracture of the ilium, which is part of the pelvis. No surgery
was required and he resumed galloping June 21. …
