Alvarado Wins Four at Aqueduct on Jan 1

Jockey Junior Alvarado celebrated the New Year at Aqueduct Racetrack by winning four races, including the 141st running of the $75,000 Ladies Handicap with C C’s Pal.


The Venezuelan-born Alvarado, 26, started the day by completing a sweep of the rolling Pick 3 ($28.60) in races 2-3-4 aboard Beggarthyneighbor ($2.80), C C’s Pal ($4.80), and Muster Up ($8.80). After finishing third aboard Aquitania in race 6, the $75,000 Interborough, Alvarado came back to win race 7, a six-furlong claimer, with Queen of the Lake ($8.30).


The four victories boosted Alvarado into first place in the jockey standings with 27 winners for the Big A’s inner-track meet, which began on November 30. Cornelio Velasquez is in second place with 24 winners.
