Martin Schwartz’s Alterite (FR), a 1 1/2-length winner of the Garden City (G1) in her North American debut last month, headlines a deep field of nine 3-year-old fillies entered Wednesday for Saturday’s 30th running of the $400,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) to be contested at 1 1/8 miles on the turf.

The QE II will go as the ninth race on Saturday’s 10-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. (ET). Post time for the QE II is 5:21 p.m.

Alterite, who is one of seven graded or group winners in the field, will try to give trainer Chad Brown his second consecutive victory in the race. Brown, who won with Dayatthespa in 2012, would join Woody Stephens, John Veitch and Joe Orseno as the only trainers to win the QE II in consecutive years.

John Velazquez, who was aboard Alterite for the Garden City victory, has the call Saturday and will break from post position four.

Returning to challenge Alterite on Saturday are two fillies she left in her wake in the Garden City: third-place finisher Concise (GB) and seventh-place finisher Caroline Thomas.

Andrew Stone’s Concise finished fourth in the Woodford Reserve Lake Placid (G2) prior to the Garden City. Trained by Graham Motion, the daughter of Lemon Drop Kid will be ridden by Edgar Prado and break from post position six. Motion and Prado combined to win the 2003 QE II with Film Maker.

Joyce Young’s Caroline Thomas was elevated to first place in the Woodford Reserve Lake Placid before the Garden City. Trained by Barclay Tagg, Caroline Thomas is a daughter of 2007 QE II winner Bit of Whimsy, who was trained by Tagg and owned by Young and Gerald McManis. Caroline Thomas, by Giant’s Causeway, will be ridden by Rosie Napravnik and break from post position three.

No daughter of a QE II winner has come back to win the race. In addition to Caroline Thomas, one other filly will have the chance to do so this year. That filly is Say (IRE), a daughter of 2002 winner Riskaverse.

Owned by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, Say finished sixth at Keeneland in last Saturday’s First Lady (G1) against older fillies and mares. Trained by Aidan O’Brien, the Galileo (IRE) filly is following in the path of Together (IRE), the 2011 QE II winner who was second in the First Lady the week before.

A Group 3 winner in Ireland, Say will be ridden by James Graham and break from post position two.

The field for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, from the inside out, is as follows: Sarach (Martin Garcia), Say (IRE) (Graham), Caroline Thomas (Napravnik), Alterite (FR) (Velazquez), Emotional Kitten (Garrett Gomez), Concise (GB) (Prado), Kitten’s Dumplings (Julien Leparoux), Leigh Court (Gary Boulanger) and I’m Already Sexy (Florent Geroux). All starters will carry 121 pounds.

who's riding Emotional Kitten since G. Gomez is out? Any updates?
I’m in, Sully >> She and Florent “DICTATED the PACE on a comfortable lead while under firm rating” and that’s never supposed to happen. Maybe she just shouldn’t be.
The name is enough for me but the potential makes me like her even more...I'm Already Sexy; Emotional Kitten; Kitten's Dumplings; Caroline Thomas.
Emotional Kitten (6-1) w/ G.Gomez and I'm Already Sexy(8-1)..I'll take it.
