Saturday’s Santa Anita Park Recap – Jan. 25

The fast main track seemed to play fair. Stalk and pounce types captured all three turf routes, and the lone downhill turf sprint was dominated by early types. The turf rail was down.

Kent Desormeaux booted home two turf stakes winners. Welcome back, Kent D! Victor Espinoza and Joe Talamo guided home two winners as well. Peter Miller saddled two winners on Cal Cup Day.

Using the Primary-Secondary strategy on Saturday, I tabbed two Primary winners (Sea John’s Spirit, California Chrome) and three Secondary winners (Ciao Bella Luna, Big Macher, Weewinnin). Double carryover into Sunday!

They're usually coming home like rockets. You usually see the quirks where the dirt meets the turf running for home. It also may not have been her dropping back as much as the field moving earlier than her. It's a very unique circuit, that's for sure.
Definitely. Hope Gob and Jimmy saw it. She's got a future. Of course, my pick was Smith and Stevens won. Those two are doing great right now. Odd. 11 looked good, but faded. My other choice, 7, dropped back like he was fading and then rocketed. Is this normal? I don't watch much Santa Anita turf so perhaps I don't know the quirks.

I'm still alive to 5 of 6. You gotta watch the race replay for race 7, rafi. Curlin filly was very impressive first out.
