22 Nominated to Longacres Mile

Twenty-two handicap horses—including stakes winners from Washington, Canada, the Midwest and California—have been nominated to the $250,000 Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs.

The 75th running of the Grade III Mile—the latest chapter in one of the Northwest's iconic sporting events—is set for Sunday, Aug. 22. The program also includes the $75,000 Emerald Distaff for fillies and mares, with Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Delahoussaye to serve as Honoray Steward for The Mile.

A very good horse from Hastings, ran third last year in this race and recently just missed breaking a 35 year old track record at 8.5f, has a good shot in this one: Teide. This horse was initially the property of Darley Stud in England but was culled to bring in more classic prospects and sold to Swift Thoroughbreds of Vancouver. He is part of a stable of yearling purchase (Burj Dubai, originally cost 1 million US and Nuumany, a huge strapping AP Indy that was over $800K) along with several lesser ones who grace the winner's circle on a regular basis.
