2013 Del Mar Futurity Preview

With the 2013 Saratoga season behind us its now time to focus on the 2 year old division (along with keeping an eye out on who in the world is going to separate themselves as Horse of the Year).

Strong Mandates win in the Hopeful was very impressive but now the West Coast will try to answer with a star of its own in the Grade I Del Mar Futurity. Last years winner of this race Rolling Fog never really made it that far but past winners of this race include superstars Lookin At Lucky and Silver Charm. PPs and my picks are below:

http://www.brisnet.com/php/bw_pdf_viewer.php?track=DMR&race=8&date=2013-09-04

Horses to watch are:

2- Can the Man -highly touted, good speed figure in maiden win, training fantastic, his trainer Baffert has won 11 of the last 17 of these

3- Dance with Fate - came to Delmar and broke maiden, has ran nearly the distance of this race and based on the win and the training times seems to absolutely love the track

5- Alberts Hope - won the last 2 year old stakes race at Del Mar a grade II called The Best Pal. Training well and probably the horse to beat

10- Tamarando - Horse has improved each time out and dramatically improved his speed figures stretching out to 6.5 furlongs in his maiden win. Horses that keep improving tend to be the most dangerous

11- Indexical - posted a 92 speed figure breaking his maiden last time out which is the top figure in this race. Not very highly touted but after a troubled trip in his first race and the easy win in his second definitely someone to keep an eye out for

My pick to win: 3 Dance with Fate
My pick to place: 5 Alberts Hope
My pick to show: 2 Can The Man
4th: 11 Indexical

The long road to the Kentucky Derby has already begun and were only a few days away from the first points race of the season. Look for more race previews for the Derby trail in the near future
