2010 Kentucky Derby Graded Earnings Update (April 4)

Kentucky Derby 136 logo
The results of the Wood Memorial, Santa Anita Derby and Illinois Derby shuffled the order of the Kentucky Derby graded earnings a bit.

Key horses that could be left on the outside looking in include:
- Setsuko - 2nd in the Santa Anita Derby with a powerful close, but with only $180,000 he's tied for 26th with Odysseus, who is likely to pick up some earnings next weekend.
- Pleasant Prince - 2nd in the Florida Derby, but has only $162,500 in earnings and is currently in 30th.
- Caracortado - finished 4th in the Santa Anita Derby, but is stuck in 32nd with $153,000.
- Yawanna Twist - ran a good 2nd in the Illinois Derby, but is in 33rd with $147,000.
- Schoolyard Dreams - only managed a 4th in the Wood, and now is in 35th with only $137,500.
- Drosselmeyer - his 3rd in the Louisiana Derby left him with $87,000, currently sitting in 39th place, and needing one more race, which could come in the Blue Grass or Lexington.

Older Comments about 2010 Kentucky Derby Graded Earnings Update (April 4)...

Boy, that Florida Stallion Series sure must not have paid very well for Jackson Bend to be so far down the list in Graded earnings. I also thought D' Funnybone with win's in the Saratoga Special, the Futurity Stakes, the Hutcheson Stakes, and the Swale Stakes, plus a place effort in the Frank Gomez Stakes would have acquired more money in Graded earnings than his total suggest.
As well as he's raced over every conventional dirt track that he's ever ran, I still find it hard to believe that Rick Dutrow isn't going to take a shot at the 2010 Kentucky Derby with D' Funnybone. I really think it's a distance question with Dutrow. But that wouldn't deter me from taking a shot with this colt, because none of the incoming contenders will be proven yet at 1-1/4. TJMO.
