What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Violence...

Half brothers and sisters to grade one winners Better Lucky, Rachel Alexandra, Violence, Super Saver and My Miss Aurelia will be making their maiden debuts this weekend.Read More
Last October the 6th, a promising young colt won nicely in his first try around two-turns in the Charlie Palmer Futurity at the Big Fresno Fair. Granted Fresno is not exactly a hotbed for future stars, but Fury Kapcori seemed far different than your typical runner on the California Fair circuit. The...Read More

  • Mary Z. · I expect Fury to kick ass next time. Not that they didn't send him out there to win his last two, but I'm sure he's on to bigger things. Starting slow in a sprint in his first race back doesn't help and can't say Fury didn't run great yesterday. No worries. · 231 days ago ·
  • DAVIDM9999 · As a contrarian when it comes to short priced favorties at 6-5 I will let you have him. Hopefully he continues his comeback and get into the winner circle soon. · 229 days ago ·

As I go through and look at the potential contenders for the Derby and the Oaks and their pedigrees, it gets me thinking – if money wasn’t an issue and I owned a mare, which sire would I have her bred to?Read More
  • cocoa2 · Speightstown seems to be based off his wives, as far as distance goes. Haynesfield was out of a distance running mare while Speightstown's sprinters are usually out of sprinters. He is a good pick for any mare, but if you're looking for a colt who wants 10f and the mommy only wanted 8f, I think Hat Trick or Street Cry would be your man. · 373 days ago ·

Has been officially retired and will stand at Hill n' Dale in 2014

  • RichChatter · Gotta agree, Northport. I do think some of the injuries we see do warrant a retirement, but there were a few from last year that really irked me. · 408 days ago ·
  • Sysonby · I think they were wise to retire Violence. I'm wondering what role Winstrol is playing in the early retirements. It has negative effects that get worse the longer it's used, so a racing career for horses on it definitely have a best before date on them. · 408 days ago ·
Violence, one of the winter book favorites for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), has been officially retired from racing and will reside at John G. Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington. The son of Medaglia d'Oro will not stand at stud this year. Read More
I know he's probably retired, but do you think he will recover from his injury, maybe put up for stud in a couple of years?
  • amino998 · Absolutely. · 411 days ago ·
  • Dressage3295 · I can only hope he doesn't get that many mares. We need injury RESISTANT horses- not all these two/three year olds going off to stud. · 411 days ago ·
In keeping with my annual tradition, the time has come to reveal the 2013 GQ Derby Double Dozen… 90 days prior to the Run For The Roses. • icyhotboo · "Orb won, but Violence ran a better race. adaman" Along with Danni's eplanation I agree... I don't know exactly if this was the point in time that Violence became hurt, but in the stretch he pretty much stopped running, then when challenged he came on again, this I've seen many times in many races, but is me or was his stride different at that point? · 418 days ago ·
  • icyhotboo · "DeadHeat" I have no personal interest in who is more accurate, but I use Brisnet SF for the past 2yrs. I remember Andy from the NY circuit, one couldn't ask to be in the company of a more engagening person, but I don't have faith in his SR any more. · 418 days ago ·

How in the world or true sportsmanship could one retired a horse with such a encouraging pp
  • travel_vic · You don't come back from seasmoids. Their blood supply is so poor as to never risk the horse again should they survive this and that mechanism holds up the entire hoof apparatus. · 418 days ago ·

  • kay.robinett · Mike in SB, I believe (someone please correct me if I am wrong) that every Triple Crown winner with the exception of Sir Barton began his three year old season in a sprint and stretched out in distance from there. Not sure why trainers have gotten away from this, and also from using well placed allowance races to bring their horses into form? · 418 days ago ·
  • dani.pugh · Mike, I believe the more you race/train while young the better the horse will handle racing down the road. There is no subsitute for the real thing, never. I get some horses run better off more rest, however not all are like that. I don't think that was the case of Violence's injury, meaning lack of conditioning. I think it was partially, but i also think the track and the pace had more to do with it. A horse who is lightly raced going 6f 1.08 in Feb is simply way way way too fast. Pletcher could not have forseen a pace that quick, nobody could. The only person who could have done anything at that point was the jockey, by keeping his colt farther off that pace, knowing it way too fast. · 418 days ago ·
