Older Comments about Toronado...

i think this horse is better than Wise Dan. best turf miler in the world.

  • usma2014 · Difficult to compare British race horses skills, to that of an American's. I thought Seek Again might even outdo WD in the Woodford, but he definitely had a will to win, even after some trouble before the first turn. · 1014 days ago
  • paul.nathan.946 · Tough one i don't think there is much between then i would side with wise dan though especially at Santa Anita · 1014 days ago
Kudos to Richard Hannon, Jr!! When you bring a horse back from a 300+ day layoff and still win the G1 Queen Anne Stakes, you know that horse has some serious ability. Great effort by Verrazano in 2nd also!!

  • travel_vic · the old ideas of layoffs no longer are accurate. The game has changed in that regard big time. · 1014 days ago
  • buckpasser · Euro trash. Yes he will. I think O'Brien is a nice fit for this horse. · 1014 days ago
From AtTheRaces.com: Richard Hannon, Jr.'s Toronado is firmly on target to make his seasonal debut in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes, the opening race of Ascot's royal meeting. Hannon Jr.'s star miler trio of Toronado, Olympic Glory, & Sky Lantern all 3 still remain engaged for the Queen Anne at present, but Olympic Glory is thought to be a non-runner and Sky Lantern has another entry for the meeting in the G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes.
sad to report that Toronado will not be coming to the Breeder's Cup, they will send Olympic Glory. Toronado will target the BC in 2014, where it will be his ultimate goal of the season.
Is not in America - Marcus Hersh ‏@DRFHersh 6h Trainer Richard Hannon Jr. told me Olympic Glory & Toronado both Mile pre-entered, but Toronado the more likely runner - if either comes
Since he was pulled out of Saturday's G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot due to the ground being too soft, Toronado will indeed now be rerouted to Santa Anita for the BC Mile according to HRTV. Also missing the QE II due to soft ground that could possibly come stateside now for the race is Coolmore's Magician. Declaration of War, who was scratched from the G1 Champion Stakes on Saturday due to soft ground will now come to straight to the Breeders Cup to run in the BC Classic along with the Marco Botti trained Planteur who's finished 3rd in the past 2 renewals of the G1 Dubai World Cup.

  • EP Taylor · Dan is going to be tough. This is gonna be one heck of a showdown. · 1256 days ago
  • Sullivan · This really is a loaded field. All we can hope is that they go 8 wide in the stretch > Obviously may win just because of the traffic! · 1256 days ago
Hes coming to America Today!
Any one know why hes been taken out the bc mile betting?

  • Floridaf · The connections of The Fugue are strongly leaning towards the Turf rather than the F&M Turf. · 1258 days ago
  • jonquil · Yeah, they really seemed keen to put her in the Turf against the boys and like paul said Flintshire is definitely a strong contender to worry about even with The Fugue if things go his way. For the F&M Turf there could be Dank, Flotilla, Winsili and Romantica if they don't send The Fugue off in that. If all those fillies go, you still have plenty of choice, heh. · 1258 days ago
why is he not running the qe2? breeders cup bound? can't find any news
Toronado will attempt to tackle the extended 10f and Al Kazeem, both for the first time, in the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Wednesday. He's 1 of 6 horses entered in a field that also includes Al Kazeem, Declaration of War, Hillstar, Trading Leather, and Rewarded.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @kaitlinefree1, I heard Jeff Siegel saying on HRTV's show "Pursuit of the Cup" the other night that Toronado isn't Breeders Cup nominated but they haven't rulled out supplementing him for this year's BC Mile. It would be great to see him and Wise Dan square off at a mile, that's for sure. · 1316 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · thats what i'm hoping for. it would be awesome. · 1316 days ago
From the front page of today's AtTheRaces.com web-site: Trainer Richard Hannon could yet be tempted into running Toronado against Al Kazeem over 10-1/2f in next week's G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York with Hannon saying that jockey Richard Hughes is keen to have a tilt at the Ebor meeting showpiece, with Hughes saying he doesn't believe the distance will be a problem for Toronado. Speaking today at Salisbury Hannon said they're keen to keep Toronado and Olympic Glory apart at a mile, and given there's only one horse to beat(Al Kazeem) in the Juddmonte International it's very tempting to run Toronado at York.

  • paul.nathan.946 · If it wasn't for olympic glorys massive run in the morais i doubt this would even have been considered. · 1321 days ago
  • jonquil · I really hope Hughesie convinces Hannon to let Toronado run. Make the race more exciting! · 1320 days ago
For the record, I did not pick Toronado to win the Sussex Stakes. I actually had him figured to finish 3rd behind Dawn Approach & Declaration of War. But I did say several times prior to the race that nobody rides the track at Goodwood as well as Richard Hughes does, and we saw proven again today. That being said, I am a bit puzzled by some of the comments I've seen on various web-sites by people claiming that Richard Hannon said Toronado was better than Canford Cliffs was? At the height of his career, Canford Cliffs reeled off 5 straight G1 wins at a mile in the Irish 2000 Guineas, St. James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes, Lockinge Stakes, & Queen Anne Stakes, against such horses as Goldikova, Rip Van Winkle, Dick Turpin, Cityscape, Makfi, Siyouni, Cape Blanco, Twice Over, Pure Champion, Xtension, and the list is even much longer. Talented though I think Toronado is, I could never in my wildest dreams imagine him coming close to accomplishing a run like Canford Cliffs did at G1 level over the type of horses that Canford Cliffs deafted in doing it. That's why I think it may be "iffy" at best that the comment was ever made, IMO.

  • Northport · Hughsie was the one to say he was the best he has ever ridden (CC included) but I don't think Hannon Sr. has made any specific mention of it - http://www.racingpost.com/news/horse-racing/richard-hannon-richard-hughes-glorious-goodwood-toronado-turns-tables-on-dawn-approach-in-sussex/1329210/top/#newsArchiveTabs=last7DaysNews · 1334 days ago
  • jonquil · Yeah, I remember hearing him say that, just not Hannon Sr. I guess that's possibly where it came from. Thanks, Northport! :) · 1334 days ago
Guess who won the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Goodwood today? Toronado! :) He beat off Dawn Approach and Declaration of War in impressive style.
What an SOLID performance from Toronado at Newmarket. He ran a Sea the Stars time over the Rowley Mile and did it all in hand while widening at will. Toronado vs Dawn Approach in the Qipco 2000 Guineas is gonna be one of heck of a race.
Toronado keeps his unbeaten record in tact as the Richard Hannon trained duo of Toronado & Havana Gold run 1st & 2nd in the G3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket just a short time ago.
I have a long time friend who lives in England that works for the Racing Post that sent me a message today saying there's all kinds of rumors swirling around over there that Coolmore/Ballydoyle are trying to buy Toronado before the classic races for 3YO begin in May. Magnier/Tabor/Smith already have a pretty loaded hand with the likes of Kingsbarns, Cristoforo Colombo, George Vancouver, Gale Force Ten, & Mars among others. Adding this horse to their ranks would be a high coup.
Is horse running ? Is horse ok?
High Chaparal's progeny doing so so here in Indian truck and also jockey Richard Huge is total failure in riding here. Jockey Jimmy Fortune is making money here taking all those big races.
this horse hasnt done anything wrong but he better get a prep if hes going to hook bolger and godolphins monster in the guineas
