Oh my his new pic at Coolmore is gorgeous!!! http://www.coolmore.com/stallions/shanghai-bobby/?farm_id=66
pretty sad about my boy. but i'd rather them retire him then him injure himself to the point he needed to be euthanized.
  • ruffianlover · Very sad indeed. · 299 days ago
  • goblin · It's really unfortunate after he returned from the lay off successfully, only to damage a suspensory. · 299 days ago
From Coolmore website: Shanghai Bobby Retired. Sustained an injury to a suspensory ligament in Aljamin Stakes last friday
Best of luck Bobby: http://starlightracing.com/news.aspx#shanghai-bobby-retired-to-stand-at-ashford-stud
  • ruffianlover · NO! no no no no no no. omg this is dejavu of Union Rags last year. But rather this than have him break down on the track. Good luck to my boy in the breeding shed. God this is heartbreaking. · 299 days ago
Despite the narrow victory, I'm grading Shanghai Bobby's return performance a B. Solid time; gritty win.

  • tmallios1 · One of a kind. But i told her she can't come up empty handed , Need her to bring her bag of goodies and give me another Noble Moon ($53) she said is that all.My friend is still astonished. In the 1rst race that day,she not only told us that the #4 would win,she said he would kick ass.I rolled my eyes.S.O.B wound up winning by 16 lengths. Even nicer when you can save the rooting for another race.Just sat back and enjoyed the view.Meantime all my friend could say was holy crap.I am giving you the PG rating. · 307 days ago
  • LAZMANNICK · Jay Black is an exception. He's probably 90 to 95% as good now as he was back in the day. · 307 days ago
Glad to see him back, with a win.
Anyone know where I can watch the replay?

Welcome back, Shanghai Bobby!

  • ruffianlover · It is hard to say what his preferred distance is. He has won at 4 1/2 all the way to a mile and a 1/16. I think the only reason he won at a mile and a 1/16 is because of his grittiness. I do not think he wants any part of anything longer than a mile. I think he has to be at the top of his game to win at a mile when competing with other good horses like Verrazano. I think he can do well from 6-7 F also. · 308 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · i think he shines pretty well at 7F to a Mile. this race was just a tad short i think. but a good race to return in. · 308 days ago

on September 1, Shanghai Bobby worked 5F at Saratoga on Fast Dirt training in 1:02.28 b finishing 8/15.
Glad they are concentrating on getting him fit again and not bringing him back before he is ready. This is a very special horse who I love because he seems to have a lot of heart. Refused to be passed in the Juvenile and you could tell he hated seeing its myluckydays rear end in the holy bull. I think if they keep him at a mile or less he could be so good. Hope to see him in the BReeders Cup. Maybe the sprint or the dirt mile if he's ready
  • ruffianlover · If he and Verrazano meet up in the dirt mile I think I'll be more excited about that race than the Classic · 328 days ago

  • Northport · I agree with Dressage. If he returns to his past form, he certainly has a great chance of being a good miler · 350 days ago
  • rafirox · Shanghai Bobby definitely has potential to be a good miler. There is plenty of evidence: His 5 length score in the Champagne (8f), his Breeder's Cup Juvenile triumph (8.5f) and his track record-breaking 2nd place finish in the Holy Bull (8.5f). · 350 days ago
On August 5, Shanghai Bobby breezed 3F in 38 flat (8/11) at Saratoga.
