i'll ask a question too. make a 15 horse field of horses from 1940-1980 going 1 1/4 on the Fast Dirt at Belmont Park.
What is your favorite horse racing Instagram account and why?
You have a time machine and all of the sudden, you know how to ride. Name a few horses you would have liked to ride in a certain race. For me: Secretariat in the 1973 Belmont, Zenyatta in the 2009 Breeder's Cup Classic.

Secretariat - I saw him run all three legs of the Triple Crown and he had Greatness in him. Not just because of his numbers but because he was full of spirit, perosnality and confidence. I have a picture of him in my office and for over 40 years he has inspired me to be my best.
I used to think equine greatness could be measured in times, margins, and PP's, but this year's Triple Crown season and Belmont day card have made me rethink that. I am 14 years old, have just finished eighth grade, and have my life all planned out. If a young racehorse, two years old, has his career all set out and follows through with no hitches but no signs of true brilliance, does that make him great? If there is another horse who will take all comers, but doesn't always come out on top truly great? What about a seemingly average horse who had one shining moment that defined him? People who don't even follow the sport have been labeling the recent Triple Crown contender "great", "brilliant", and other admiring terms, but ignore a truly good, possibly great horse in Palace Malice who joined a classy group in winning the Metropolitan and Belmont in consecutive years. Some say greatness is determined by one's legacy, but does promotion like what Seabiscuit received make him any better than he would've been without it? Wise Dan is a stellar gelding, deserving of the word Great in my opinion, but how will he be remembered in 10 years? Will a movie be made to remember him? My little sisters have no clue who Spectacular Bid was, but can quote the whole Secretariat movie.

  • rafirox · Kind of like how Skip Bayless praises Tim Tebow but doubts LeBron James ... insult the best, praise the average. This seems to be your motto. How can you criticize Palace Malice, but praise a horse who is not in the same stratosphere as him, in Vyjack? · 718 days ago
  • Dressage3295 · We will always disagree on the subject of PM tmallios, and I accept that. It personally seems to me that no matter what this colt does, it's not good enough for some. Is he over praised? Perhaps, but he is also largely under praised. And about WTC- I think he was doing great last year. This year, by your definition, he hasn't beaten any top tier horses either (only MMM, but he's known to throw in clunkers all the time and the day of the race, he certainly did not run like a top tier horse). In fact, he's been beaten by a few horses that are not at all top tier. I personally don't think his spring campaign was nearly as good as last fall's. Now, he may bounce back, but who knows until we see him run again. Maybe WTC is better than PM this year, but so far, I don't think so. As it is, I'm sure the many races in the future will decide that, but I've supported this colt since his first race and that's not about to stop. · 718 days ago
he is still the greatest horse in the world ! We went to see him and we got to see him and got to touch him!they took him to his pad dock and let him go and we watch him run!my mom has some of his hair yet. That was the best day of our lives!it feels like it was yesterday !

  • EP Taylor · Did you see him at Claiborne Deb?. I think Travel_Vic, and a few others onhere saw him at Claiborne as well. Did you get to see the Bid also? It is nice to share those moments with your family, especially if they share your passion. I am alone in the aspect...lol. Nobody in my family are horse people. · 718 days ago
I am not necessarily a fn of horse racing. Some people don't love their horses, they only love the $$ and the fame. Howeve, being from the hmetow of Alysheba I am a HUGE fan of Secretariat. H was the most amazing horse ever! He not only had a hugge heart but was - I believee - an extremely intelligent horse. There will NEVER be another Secretariat.
The fittest I have ever seen a horse, his eyes were big as saucers his nostrils were flared he was nickering his ears were playing his muscles were rippleing and hes walking around on his hine legs

Sec might of been the greatest for those 5 weeks of the 1973 Triple Crown, but I can't vote a horse who never carried weight and lost 4 races with little or no excuse. A top 10 colt, of course. But not number 1.

  • travel_vic · AH, largely ignornat one. DRF's clockers timed Red SLOWING DOWN past the line in the Belmont and he broke Swap's WORLD record for 1 5/8ths which most of us know is a tad short ot 16 furlongs so as good as keslo was in his life, he would have had a lot of catching up to do that day Also since Red was never seriously challenged short, we don't have any way to compare the then barely 3 year old Red to the mature Fager. · 770 days ago

i'm taking my grandma to the races on Monday. she was into racing back in the day & my favorite memory she told me was when she & my grandpa went to Kentucky in the late 70's & she met Secretariat. she said he was "just like a human." so my question is, what are some of your favorite memories from the track & what thoroughbred stars have you had the pleasure of meeting? :)
