  • Sullivan · Was a very good sire, gettung Secret Circle among others · 1114 days ago
  • Buckpasser · Orb going in that stall had to do with being a Derby winner and also a Phipps connection as Bold Ruler and Easy Goer were their horses. · 1114 days ago
Round Table and Bold Ruler were foaled on the same night at Claiborne. Bold Ruler garnered Horse of the Year honors in 1957, Round Table in 1958. These greats together own a whopping 18 awards, and stood at their birthplace after distinguished racing careers. What other pair of stablemates had such exceptional records? Secretariat and Riva? Others?

  • airedale2008 · When J.T. Lundy took over Calumet Farm in 1982, its financial situation was rock solid — worth nearly $100 million, debt free, and with the prince of all stallions earning money at an unprecedented rate in the breeding shed. Through decades of hard work, Calumet had earned its reputation as the most prestigious horse breeding farm and thoroughbred training center in the country. Nine years later Calumet was a shambles. Lundy resigned and left the farm in April 1991. In July, Calumet filed for bankruptcy. "Before J.T. took over, the farm had $93 million in assets," said The Blood-Horse's Eric Mitchell. "And then by the time the farm files for bankruptcy in '91 — a decade later — the farm was $165 million in the hole." Fans who loved Alydar will be pleased that the louse spent 4 ½ years in prison for bank fraud, bribery and conspiracy. Did he get away with murder? · 1385 days ago
Round Table is considered by many to be the greatest American turf horse. He won three turf titles to John Henry’s four. So who was actually the better?

  • shadowno · John Henry ran 83 races with 39 victories. 7 Eclipse awards and twice Horse of the Year. Essentially JH and Round Table were such outstanding animals that IMO you could argue either side and not be wrong. · 1809 days ago
  • buckpasser · Quite true shadowno. Both are great ones. · 1809 days ago

Round Table, John Henry, Manila, Cougar II and Fort Marcy are the top 5 American turf horses, in my opinion.
  • MikeSek · That's a fairly perfect top five of all time! You get kudos and mad props for that! · 2183 days ago

hmmm...66starts:43-8-5..$1,749,869....US Champion Turf Horse 1957,1958,1959..US Male Handicap Horse1958,1959..Horse of the Year 1958..Leading North American Sire 1972..3rd horse to win $1 mil after Citation and Nashua...Set or equaled 14 track records and equaled 1 world record...Acknowledged as one of the greatest turf runners in the sport...By the time he retired he had carried between 130-136 lb 25 times and won 17.
