Older Comments about Rachel Alexandra...

“I think she’s the best I’ve ever seen,” said 96-year-old racing legend John Nerud. “I don’t compare her to anyone. I’m not afraid to say she’s better than Ruffian, because she is. They sent two speed horses after her and made her go in :22 4/5, then they came after her one at a time and she put them all away. Those were tough older horses and they tried everything they could to get her beat and they couldn’t.” What do you all think of this quote from the man. Very high praise indeed.

I've been waiting for this.. here SHE is! (>> https://www.facebook.com/StonestreetFarms/photos/a.167965013243135.31426.106318256074478/747245025315128/?type=1&theater
Is there any news on jess's dream, with those curlin's colts shown up in these big races.can't wait to hear about his works.

Just heard she will not be bred to this year and gets a rest

  • kay.robinett · I am sure that this decision was made with lots of input from her vets. She is an insanely valuable mare, and from what I remember, Jackson's dream was to use her as a broodie. · 1164 days ago
  • goblin · cocoa/Sullivan, Thanks for the link. Believe me, they are following medical advice. · 1164 days ago
As a continuation to the earlier Fager/Secreteriat post. Before i make my staement, let me preface it that i never rooted or considered eitther one a favorite. Both of them were incredible and at their best could be in the conversation as to the top of the Fillies and Mares ladder in the past 20 years. My parameters are quality and Speed, winning is irrelevant unless you bet her(made no money) or owned her to collect the purses. That being said, between Rachel and Zennyatta. At their best, even up to 1 1/8th.I believe Rachel would beat her 7 out of 10 times.I could care less who was in the race. If the race were a head to head match race.Z might be able to win 1 out of 10
Has anyone heard anything about her 2013 filly? A name, maybe? I just want to make sure she's OK, I haven't been able to find anything about her. :(

  • EP Taylor · All reports I have read online said she was doing fantastic, considering every thing she has been through. No news on the baby. · 1195 days ago
  • goblin · ruffianzenyatta, I feel sure there will be an announcement on the Stonestreet site if/when the filly is named. Maybe they'll have a naming contest as they did with the Curlin colt--I still prefer to call him Taco though. As you probably know, the filly was turned over to a nurse mare, a Quarter Horse named Miss Beautiful Ojos, or just Ojos for short. I'm guessing we won't hear much until the filly is ready to be turned out as a yearling with the others of her crop on the farm. If you haven't seen a picture of the foal or nurse mare, I found one at Paulick Report. http://www.paulickreport.com/news/ray-s-paddock/nurse-mares-four-legged-mary-poppins-to-the-rescue/ · 1195 days ago
Just rewatched her 2009 campaign and all I can say is WOW!! No horse of that year could touch her... Truly a once in a lifetime horse! Was simply AMAZING!
love the fact that her best friend (Hot Dixie Chick)'s son Chilli (Union Jackson) is Taco's best friend too! too cute.
what did her foal end up being named>

  • goblin · You're welcome. His story is ongoing via the Stonestreet site. Here is an account of his departure for training in Florida ~2 months ago. http://www.stonestreetfarms.com/info/?page_id=144 · 1224 days ago
anyone have pictures of her latest foal?
HRN isn't the only place they're still squabbling :D >> http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/80300/ky-supreme-court-declines-rachel-fee-case
Assmusen gutted Rachel and then tried to change her racing style from on lead or stalking to a come from behinder. I am surprised Calvin Borel didn't deck the assmuse. Rachel is the only horse who makes me cry, everytime I see her run. You can say others were better but they brokedown. Yes, that's the point they broke down.

  • icyhotboo · dixfiles, while I agree about gutting her then changing her running style I don't quite understand the last part of your comment. It's probably obvious to all but myself but could you enlighten me please. ty · 1394 days ago
  • CauseForConcern · dixfiles, welcome to the HRN site. Look forward to more of your contributions. · 1394 days ago
Watching this year's Oaks and watching her's after it really shows how amazing Rachel Alexandra was... She was just pure class and just pulled away without breaking a sweat. I don't think people understand how talented she really was...

  • dixfiles · So True! Rachel ran on everything and beat them all in 2009. Z would never run on a damp let alone sloppy track. · 1394 days ago
  • icyhotboo · I can use the word "great" with confidence when speaking of her, even if it's only my opinion I can't be convinced she wasn't. · 1394 days ago
Can she get pregnant again?
  • Show All 23 Comments
  • hshfarms · There has been some discussion on this topic of breeding Rachel to a smaller sized stud... Mares have the unique ability to only allow the fetus to grow to a safe size... Years ago some research was done on this topic by breeding 10 shetland pony mares to a Shire stallion, none of the mares had complications and the foals grew to a medium sized horse. · 1414 days ago
  • cedar · that's really awesome. So would you say it may just not be safe for her to be bred again? Going 2 for 2 with foaling complications has me nervous about them trying again, even though I think we'd all love to see her have more. · 1414 days ago

  • RichChatter · Are you sure they bred Rachel to Bernardini and not an elephant? Man, either those people are really tiny or she's really that big. Either way she's lookin' good. · 1457 days ago
  • Dressage3295 · When she's a yearling, I expect her to be the size or close to the size of her nurse mare. 17 hands here we come!!!! · 1457 days ago
I always love to look back on RA's career. She had an amazing career. She beat the KY Derby winner she beat a two Belmont winner's. She beat some of the best in her time. She really did prove herself out on the track. And not to mention she won 5 G1's in arow. Cannot wait to see her offspring run!
Here are photos I took of her in 2010. I wish I had, had a better camera for her.
