Older Comments about Orb...

gonna have to go there want to see orb
Conformation shot of Orb, he certainly has gotten quite chunky - http://oi57.tinypic.com/2whmes7.jpg
Is there any news on him?
Orb got a full baby brother :) http://t.co/c3ZgTvPjD1
I thought wtc deserved 3 year old award but damn they didnt even give orb the once over just treated him like a claimer.
Why didn't Orb ever race in the colors of Phipps stable? Since he was part owned by him shouldn't he have race at least one race with the well known black and red? Sorry for my lack of knowledge. Thanks!

If Orb was a horse in a storybook, his jockey would have been injured before the Kentucky Derby. His trainer would try dozens of other jockeys, but Orb would not run his best for any of them. In the end, Orb's good friend Jen Patterson would get the mount, earning her jock's licence and riding the horse to victory. :P
Orb will be living in the stall previously used by Bold Ruler, Secretariat, Easy Goer, Unbridled, & Eddington. thoughts?

  • Ruffianlover · I get ya guys. Chill. All I'm saying is kait asked for our thoughts and I don't have one since I could care less. I care more about how successful he is not what stall he's in. That's all. Don't get your panties in a twist ! · 1235 days ago
  • Jay S. · RL, I didn't see your comment in the mix of this thread till now. I saw the opener and immediately thought of Swale. Then I thought how nice it is that Orb will be there. Please don't think I was ganging-up on ya. · 1235 days ago
Kentucky Derby winner, Orb, has been retired, according to his soon to be new home, Claiborne Farm.

  • Northport · The Phipps family has sent stallions elsewhere before, so it's not like this was set in stone · 1238 days ago
  • buckpasser · True, but their best horses go to Claiborne as their mares, at one point over 250, are there and they have had an informal agreement with Hancocks since the 1920's for standing their stallions. Granted Hard Tack stood first at BlueGrass Heights due to his wonderful temperment, but after the success of Seabiscuit and Grog, he was enshrined at Claiborne. Successor started at Claiborne and then was sold to Flag is Up Farm in CA. I would assume POE would stand at Adena as a Frank controls the breeding rights. I do remember one roster at Claiborne back in the late '60's that had Bold Ruler, Buckpasser, Vitriolic, Reviewer and Successor. King Emperor was there I believe at one point too. · 1238 days ago
so orb cutting back in lenght is a "read between the lines" decision, but verranzano cutting back in length is not. orb beating violence in the FOY is nothing because violence was injured in the race that went 1:08 in 3/4, but violence beating and injured oxbow in the haskel, and it's it's my luck day, who was pulled up, in the pegasus, is not. orb beating horses in the spring, who later proved to not be that strong, but going on to beat violence every time they've raced, proves he's average at best, but verrazano beating horses that were literally claimers in both the pegasus and the haskell, heralds his greatness? it's hard to respect someone's opinion when he applies completely different rules to different horses, the person laughing at the 3rd off the layoff and cutting back in distance being a winning strategy--77 days is considered a layoff, and the cigar mile would be his 3rd race off that layoff, so i'm not sure why you are mocking that. as for orb's chances in the cigar mile, if stay thirsty could beat groupie doll at the wire, orb has as good a chance as anybody.

on October 20, Orb worked 4F at Belmont Park on Fast Dirt in :50.66 b finishing 28/33.
What's up with Orb? He finishes dead last in the Gold Cup, and now we're hearing that he might not race again this year.
very angry with drf. jerks put an article with the title hinting that shug may run orb again this year but oh wait....you have to pay to read it! dirty, dirty birds....anyone know the low down?

  • zXSwordXz · @Rob - I was joking with the fib comment. I saw that bit on the Jimmy Kimmel show and couldn't stop laughing. What can I say, we live in a country that is full of illiterates and clueless individual and many wonder why this country is going downhill. Speaking of "Affordable", how is that for irony? Many can't afford the friggin payment. My company is planning to drop coverage for all of their employees because the head count is not 50 and everyone can now join the "Affordable Care Act". Way to go Obama! Why don't you lead by example and have everyone include congress and all government employees join the affordable care act if it is that good? · 1271 days ago
  • papillon · i was thinking they should give him one more shot this year in the clark, then they suggest they might run him back in the cigar. i prefer the clark over the cigar, but it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. · 1270 days ago
People are saying he is done for the year- where is this officially posted?

  • tmallios1 · Goblin,i have to laugh in the article,Janney is quoting statistics that derby winners do not have success in the 2nd half of the season.Maybe common sense should of come into play after they lost the Preakness and all chance at the triple Crown. To run this horse in the Belmont Stakes was absolutely a selfish move to stroke their egos. The 3 races in 5 weeks is what sapped the horses energy, not the win in the Kentucky Derby.Look at history, horses that run competetively in all 3 TC races are ever heard of in the 2nd half. It really is a sin.I mentioned it then and will repea now. When Shug try to sell the public ,that he would make the decision after a 4f work the Sunday prior to the race.I am sure it had to kill Shug, knowing the decision had already been made.Yeah right,a 4f work is always the staple to success when prepping for 12 furlongs. Now they are scratching their heads for answers. · 1273 days ago
