Bottom line is, Derby Day just wasn’t their day. For a not-insignificant number of Preakness winners, the disappointment of their efforts two weeks beforehand in the Kentucky Derby sometimes has been difficult to rationalize. Some, such as Snow Chief (1986), Point Given (2001), and Lookin At Lucky (...Read More
The 138th running of the Kentucky Derby went according to script from a pace standpoint and I’ll Have Another ran down Bodemeister after sitting the perfect outside stalking trip. Post position was critical in the outcome of Kentucky Derby 2012 and the key was the draw of the speed horses. Bodemeist...Read More

  • kedez2012 · El Padrino and Union Rags are my top two at the moment, but I'm not sure which is #1. They both took such huge steps in the right direction in their last races--UR finally behaved himself down the lane and EP won a gutsy duel over a dry track. I'll have to wait and see their final preps before making a decision! · 89 days ago ·

  • MikeRullo · the problem with el padrino, he lacks a quick turn of foot. the belmont might be a better race for him. on big race days pletcher horses have not shown up.I would be more worried keeping this horse sound in the pletcher barn. · 89 days ago ·

Over the past few years one of the biggest angles a horseplayer uses in order to figure what horse could become a potential Derby horse, or even a top three-year-old, is to discount any obvious two year old stars. Is this angle legit or is it a myth? Read More

  • shadowno · Unless Stay Thirsty pops and wins the BCC this should be a no brainer for Animal Kingdom. He won the race they all wanted to win, ran a big Preakness and was injured likely during the running of the Belmont. Even with a BCC win it doesn't get any bigger than Kentucky Derby. · 230 days ago ·

  • RaTalk_Girl · shadowno, interesting thoughts. I cannot disagree that every 3 year old wants that Derby win, but is it really enough. I do think that your argument about his Preakness run could change my mind. He looked great in the Derby and I do not think the way he ran in the Preakness is second to anyone. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the season brings. · 230 days ago ·
