Older Comments about Lava Man...

Just found out that Lava Man and my up and coming barrel prospect (now 2 years old), Stick Up AKA Zoom share a birthdate. Happy birthday to both!
Which horse was better Lava Man or Milwaukee Brew
He has a new part time job, in the show ring! What a versatile fellow! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=606938802659858&l=2bf6d8f326

  • travel_vic · DRF charts included Typecast/Convenience but that wasn't a "start" in the traditional sense either · 1026 days ago
  • LAZMANNICK · The Typecast Convenience race was a match race for purse money. The owners put up something like a 100K each and the track put up 50K so it counted as a race. Buckpasser ran in two non-betting races in his career, the Flamingo, and an allowance that was considered as an exhibition with no wagering. It counted in his 31 race record. He finished second in that allowance after winning his previous start. If that race wouldn’t have counted then he would have been credited with 16 wins in a row, instead of 15. When Exterminator ran at Hawthorne, it was against the clock and not just a canter so his fans could see him. He was trying to break the track record which he didn’t. The DRF posted his PP and there was an official race chart. He ran because Chicago racing was suffering and he was considered a draw that might help revive the sport. 25,000 people showed up. · 1026 days ago

  • likin sparks · Oh he did and was strutting himself leading the parade as the crowd cheered for him. I kept thinking he was gonna try to bolt off, looked ready to race. · 1318 days ago
  • notobsessed · Darn, I was looking for him, but didn't see him! · 1318 days ago
Ran in Breeder's Cup Classic, failed, but ran magnificent in CA

  • buckpasser · I love Lava Man. He can do no wrong in my eyes. · 1461 days ago
  • AnnaK · Great video. Smart as anything and so much more elegant than anything. They should make him the greeter & guide too. · 1461 days ago
Can older racehorses "mentor" younger ones? Yup! Great piece! http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20120406/SPORTS08/304060115
  • travel_vic · Many old guys do this. We had a mulitple staeks winner who traveled with young horses to keep them calm and was a pony in the morning until he was 1 · 1507 days ago
  • yukichan · And now, Lava Man makes it to the Derby! He'll accompany IHA. · 1507 days ago
Incomplete past performances chart. Failed to fire in Breeder's Cup after a stellar year.
I suppose they deserve credit for bringing a healthy horse back to the races. If anything, I'm excited to bet against him as his name will surely garner too much support at the windows.
  • horses · Agree. It will be great to see Lava Man run again... but not a good bet. If he were to win, however, I think Vic Stauffer would have a heart attack! · 2357 days ago
Lava Man had a good run for a while, but they should probably stop there. I'll be shocked if he comes back anywhere near 100-percent ability.
  • arazi · I agree. But I think what they are thinking is it would be fun if he wants to run and compete at the Grade 3 level. The double-edged sword is, of course, all of the people waiting in the wings to criticize the connections for not keeping him retired if he runs poorly or something. · 2362 days ago
