  • Sullivan · I agree he is a phenomenal sire. He really marks his offspring, and has Hughes really got the ball rolling with this Breed Secure thing or what? Not only do I feel the management of Mr. Hughes is phenomenal, but I challenge you to find a better person to continue the legacy of Spendthrift Farm. Leslie Combs would be proud. · 102 days ago ·
We take a look at the winners of last weekend's Lecomte and Smarty Jones Stakes, and wonder if they have what it takes to be contenders at Churchill.Read More
Aaaaand the busiest North American sire of 2013 was..... Into Mischief with 210 mares covered! Full report (highest to lowest or alphabetical) can be seen here - http://www.jockeyclub.com/information.asp?reportrequest=RMB&letter=all - To be honest I am surprised that none of the Coolmore stallions cracked 200, they usually are the busiest of the bunch

  • rafirox · Northport, you are correct. He was part of that campaign... I can't find the others, however. · 265 days ago ·
  • tmallios1 · That is the mis concepsion about Mischief. He was retired at an early part of his career. He never had the chance to run longer. As a 2yo he won at 8.5 furlongs. Forget the winning and losing, even in the Belmont Stakes.Vyjack off of an 6 wide trip around the yrack, ran a speed figure a half a length off of the previous years runners.Union Rags and Paynter. The difference in their trips was ,they had no ground loss. Mischief breeds fast horses ,at any distance. That is why people are flocking to him.Why not,he was a super fast horse with the sky as his limit when he ran. · 265 days ago ·
Proving to be a very good freshman sire.

  • icyhotboo · We still have to wait for the draw but Verrezano and Orb seem to tower over the others. The only benefit to this is the 20 horse field that along with the extra distance helps the fan/bettor get a better price somewhere else and still have a chance.Current odds are Verrazano 4/1, Orb 5/1, Normady Invasion 10/1, Goldencents 10/1, Itsmyluckyday 12/1, etc. This is the first time that individual horses have been the betting favorite over the field taken as a whole. That may change, but not yet. · 435 days ago ·

Don’t I ever learn? Has watching racing for the past forty years taught me nothing? Shouldn’t it be clear by now that in racing, anything can happen? I’ll leave all those probing personal questions to be overanalyzed at some future time. For now, I will just tell you that Goldencents will not win th...Read More

  • mkstorm · Doesn't seem like this West Coast horse is getting much respect. Reminds me a little of last year when I recall only two handicapppers (Brad Free and Jon White) picking I'll Have Another and proved many bettors wrong. · 439 days ago ·
  • icyhotboo · GC will take control at the top of the stretch then see if he can hold off the rest. I don't see him worse than second unless he gets a bit of bad luck. · 438 days ago ·

It’s not that I’ve never seen a horse do what Vyjack did yesterday, because I have. But in forty years of watching the races, I could probably count the number of horses that I have seen do it on one hand. What exactly did the undefeated son of Into Mischief do that was so extraordinary? Simple … co...Read More

  • head_heart_hooves · Vyjack went from being a pace-pressing sprinter in his first 2 to be a front-running router in his next - a logical extension. Certainly no one, absent the connections evidently, expected Vyjack to be so far off of the pace. That was anomolous even though the sample size is admittedly small. The fact he was able to win his toughest race while getting dirt in his face, etc, may not impress everyone, but it sure impresses me. With adaptability and ability to make your own trip so important in the large Derby field, this off-the-pace win is a nice feather in Vyjack's cap. · 492 days ago ·

  • travel_vic · all races on dirt decelerate. The rate at which they do that has much to do with how far the winner is out front. If the win is easy, why ask the horse to continue? · 547 days ago ·
