What the Nation is saying about Haynesfield...

While this Saturday's stakes races at Gulfstream are quite appealing, the rest of the card is full of intrigue with prime pedigrees in the 3-year-old races. In race 6, a maiden special weight going a mile on the turf for fillies, one of the most anticipated debuts of the season is…Read More

Dual graded stakes winner Haynesfield added a second Empire Classic victory to his resume on Saturday at Belmont and appeared to emerge from the 1 1/8-mile race in good order, assistant trainer Toby Sheets reported Sunday. • Winplacsho · It was a nice effort by Haynesfield off the bench, but I don't know what Solis was doing on Green Monster. Go back & watch that race and I think you'll agree Green Monster was probably best. · 218 days ago ·

This column has nothing to do with the defection of Tizway from next Saturday’s Jockey Club Gold Cup, as disappointing as it was, or the horses that will be competing in the mile and a quarter event, even though at this point a good portion of the field appears as if it will be made of horses more l...Read More
I don't think even the mighty Zenyatta could've caught him in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. He had such a wide lead, no wonder Blame couldn't catch him!

  • stevebiscuit · Agreed Laz, with a better trip she would have easily won. The naysayers will pretend their trips were both perfect and that Blame didn't have home track advantage but that simply isn't so. Blame ran the race of his life to beat a 6 year old mare with a troubled trip who was IMO a little past her prime. Having home track advantage at Churchill is huge! Great horses like Skip Away and Snow Chief suffered their worst defeats a Churchill simply because they couldn't handle the surface. Zenyatta couldn't handle the surface, yet her class nearly pulled her through. Anyone who's watched Blame's races could see he's a much better horse at Churchill Downs. The only reason he won the Whitney was because Quality Road was asleep and conceding 5 lbs. I doubt many would argue that because Blame got dusted in the Super Derby and JCGC that Regal Ransom and Haynesfield were better racehorses. Most experts would agree that if Zenyatta and Blame faced off 9 more times Zenyatta(without interference) would win every time. Blame was a good horse, but there's a reason his name isn't mentioned along with Tiznow, Point Given, Ghostzapper, Invasor, Curlin, Rachel Alexandra, and Zenyatta as the best of the decade(let alone all time).. · 259 days ago ·

since his poor showing in the bcc last nov., this horse is slowing down in his performances. maybe dirt mile at cd.
All week I thought of the Whitney that was approaching, I thought about the Whitney’s that I had a chance to watch. The older versions that I had to search for and YouTube, all the way to the recent ones I watched live on TV. What a great race it is, one of my favorites! I read everyone’s commentary...Read More

  • icyhotboo · Very nicely written. I believe Blame to this day doesn't get the credit he deserves. Not only did he run down QR but held off a monsterous charge by Zenyatta in the BCC. Where he belongs in the ratings I don't know or really care. His heart proved to be the largest part of him. Watching the Whitney I never thought he would get to QR who at that distance can be called formidable. · 289 days ago ·

Given how inconsistent – and yes, weak – the division has been this year, I thought that by default, Haynesfield could be the best older male in the nation before he even made his 2011 debut in Saturday’s Westchester Stakes at Belmont Park.
