  • Northport · For me, having a gelding would probably be the #1 reason to travel - no breeding value to be lost. He has done more than pay his keep, but Australia does have some of the best purses in the world and is where the best turf sprinters race so I can understand their mindset. · 804 days ago
  • paul.nathan.946 · I no yes but you never know i'm pretty sure the HK sprint is worth more than most of there sprint races would be great to see him over there. or ascot we can all dream lol · 804 days ago
Interesting to see how an european sprinter/miler goes in australia against some of their best 7f/mile types.

Gordon Lord Byron goes one place better from a year ago and wins the G1 Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock in a romp. He was much the best in the race!!
Gordon Lord Byron has been taken out of contention for Saturday's G1 July Cup at Newmarket with trainer Tom Hogan telling the Racing Post they've decided on a return to 7f for his next race with him. Hogan they ultimately want to target the G1 Prix de la Foret again at 7f over Arc weekend, the race that gave Gordon Lord Byron his only career G1 win to date. In the meantime Hogan cited the 7f G3 Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh in Ireland as a possible next target for Gordon Lord Byron.
Gordon Lord Byron trainer, Tom Hogan, told the Racing Post web-site this morning it would've been hard to bring Gordon Lord Byron to Dubai without the benefit of at least one prep race, which is why they ran him in the conditions race at Dundalk on Friday, which he won. Hogan said the plan is to run Gordon Lord Byron in the G1 Golden Shaheen on world cup night and jockey William Buick will get the mount.
In his first appearance since finishing a very game 4th in the G1 Hong Kong Mile back in December, Gordon Lord Byron won a 6f conditions race on Dundalk's all-weather track in Ireland today. He's likely to be seen next at Meydan at months end either in the G1 Golden Shaheen at 6f on tapeta or the G2 Godolphin Mile at 8f on tapeta.
Boy what a turnaround Tom Hogan has made in Gordon Lord Byron's career. Just over a year ago he was still running in class 3 and 4 handicaps, mostly on the all-weather at Dundalk in Ireland. A year later he's gone to York and won the listed City of York Stakes. Then 2nd in the G1 Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock. Stepped up to 7f at Longchamp to win the G1 Prix De La Foret, then up to a mile to run 4th in the G1 Hong Kong Mile behind 3 of the fastest horses in Hong Kong in Ambitous Dragon, Glorious Days, and Packing OK. And if not for a late bump he got from Packing OK he might have finished 3rd in the race. Very impressed with how this horse is progressing.
